OMERO is client-server software for visualization, management and analysis of biological microscope images. From the microscope to publication, OMERO handles all your images in a secure central repository. You can view, organize, analyze and share your data from anywhere you have internet access. Work with your images from a desktop app (Windows, Mac or Linux), from the web or from 3rd party software. Over 140 image file formats supported using the Bio-Formats library, including all major microscope formats.
OMERO has been developed over the last 10 years as an open source software project by the Open Microscopy Environment consortium. The open source version of OMERO is being used by over 30,000 people in more than 120 countries. The OMERO installation here at HMS is supported by Glencoe Software, the exclusive commercial partner of the OME consortium. Glencoe provides priority support and customization for the HMS OMERO installation and ensures that any technical issues that arise are handled promptly. One of the services that Glencoe provides is development and troubleshooting of Bio-Formats importer libraries. This means that even if your file format is not currently supported adequately by Bio-Formats it is possible to have a custom importer written. The decision to offer OMERO to the HMS research community is an outgrowth of the successful application of OMERO in the HMS LINCS project. OMERO is being used to link thousands of raw screening images to the LINCS datasets being shared on the project web site. An example dataset can be viewed here showing how images from OMERO can be embedded into a custom data sharing site. The microscope images you see are being served directly from the LINCS OMERO server. This illustrates that you do not have to copy images to your web site to share them with the public or your colleagues.
